Chagford Show – Thursday 20th August 2026

The 124th running of the Chagford Show will definitely be one to remember, perhaps for some slightly different reasons.

The summer of 2026 has brought a number of difficulties for our rural communities and farmers. With the longest and hottest summer on record, drought and fire risks have been a huge worry for all, not to mention road closures, water leaks and, of course Bluetongue Virus.

Due to the worsening situation in the weeks leading up to the show, and the difficult and uncertain times faced by our local farmers and landowners, the very sad decision was made to cancel all livestock classes at this year’s show.

I would like to thank everyone who helped, at very short notice, to change things around and transform the space that would normally have been filled with livestock into an area not to be missed. Although this year’s show had a different feel, there were still plenty of amazing things to see and do.

The Knight Frank Main Ring was once again a fantastic viewing area, with strong entries in the Equine classes, fantastic displays from Flying Ryan, the ever-popular Terrier Racing, the Parade of the Mid Devon Foxhounds, a wonderful performance from Hatherleigh Silver Band and, of course, the excitement of the Tug of War.

The Huish Horseboxes Pony Rings saw some strong classes of ponies, while the Stringer Equine Vets Family Ring continues to grow in popularity every year.

There was plenty for dog lovers too, with the Moorgate Vets Dog Show attracting over 200 dogs. A huge thank you must also go to Leads Dog Agility, who changed their plans and set up a ring in the livestock field for the day, putting on some fantastic displays.

I would also like to congratulate Chagford Young Farmers, whose tent was fantastic this year. We look forward to seeing what they can achieve next year as the club continues to grow.

The outstanding selection of trade stands was enjoyed by everyone, with the ever-fantastic Horticultural tent a must see, The Dartmoor Tree Surgeons Ltd Craft & Lifestyle Tent just gets better and better, with over 60 exhibitors, while the Atkin Ferrie Weath Management Food Hall was described by many as the “best yet”. Add to this a fantastic display of vintage vehicles, and there really was something for everyone.

As I always say, it really does take an army to make the day such a great success — and this year, even more so. The Chagford Show would like to thank everybody who played a part in making the day happen. We simply could not do it without the help, support and hard work of so many people.

Despite the challenges faced this year, the Chagford Show once again demonstrated what a wonderful and supportive rural community we have.

We are already looking forward to Chagford Show 2027 — save the date:
